International 2 Sides Short Film Festival ’20
Highlighting “Our Difference, Our Diversity, Our Sensitivity”, International 2 Sides Short Film Festival consists of four main sections: Screen, Armchair, Remix and Plus. With this year’s theme “In my pocket”, the festival aims to reflect the diversity of cultural experiences and the accumulative effect of our personal journeys.
DFA (Digital Film Atelier), which has been organizing short film making workshops for film professionals and enthusiasts, events focusing on cinema, and supporting projects for film producers since 2010, carries out the festival. The festival focuses on different cultures and diversity within the film and audio-visual arts arena, and it consists of independent contemporary short films from all over the world as well as queer films, newest works of experimental films, thematic film talks, director talks and digital foyer.
The festival’s main objective is to connect “2 Sides” by collaborating with a different independent film initiative every year, and to enrich the cultural landscape of Izmir. This year’s guest is bi’bak from Berlin. bi’bak, which has been producing projects focusing on stories of the nations, migration, global mobility and its aesthetic dimensions since 2014, launched its film program bi’bakino in 2015. The program focuses on transnational narratives through migration and mobility discourses, and it aims to diversify the expressions of these issues in film discipline. In September 2020, bi’bakino initiated a “cinema experiment” called “Sinema Transtopia” to show the potential of a pluralist and participatory cinema which adopts a post-migratory and postcolonial approach. bi’bak team will share their bi’bakino experience as part of the festival.
The festival took place in found/transformed boutique venues last year to fulfil its aim of bringing diverse venue experiences to Izmir and reminding the culture of collective viewing. Due to the pandemic, this year’s festival will be on digital platforms.

Our festival takes a step towards becoming an “accessible festival” this year. Screen section features 16 audio described short films in the genres of fiction, documentary, experimental and animation while all the webinars in the Armchair section has sign language interpretation in collaboration with Erişilebilir Her Şey (Accessible Everything).
One of 2SSFF’s collaborators this year, the social initiative Erişilebilir Her Şey offers consultancy and training to everyone who wants to take a step towards a more accessible life, starting with cultural institutions, venues, events and festivals.
